Happy Thanksgiving!

While our family always does the football and parade watching, football playing and turkey and pumpkin pie eating traditions, it is the meaning behind the tradition that really gets me. When we think about all that we have to be thankful for it is very overwhelming! Each year we support The Heifer Project and we start to plan what we are giving about this time each year. Our family as a whole is very supportive of this-- my parents started the trend and we've continued to grow it each year. It has been wonderful to help us teach our children. Several children's books have been written about animals donated and how it helps children which really helps drive the message home for our kids.

The Heifer Project is a fabulous organization that really helps those in the US and abroad to change their lives and give them something to be thankful for. In many cases, our small donation of an animal changes the lives of children who didn't have enough to eat on a daily basis. They are able to support their family and send the children to school to learn to read and write giving them a chance to realize their full potential. Every child should be given that opportunity but so many do not. I am very grateful for everything that I have been blessed with.

Appropriately enough, CTMH has a great new stamp set called 'Give Thanks'! I thought I'd share this with you to celebrate Thanksgiving. I used this neat set with my Copic markers and Grace papers to create these cards. I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday!

Clipboard Organization Project

So how was your week? Mine's been a blur! We've been in the hospital with our daughter all week unexpectedly. My 2 1/2 year old has 'reactive airway disease' so a little cold went from nothing but a runny nose to full blown asthma within a few hours. Amazing and very scary! But she is much better and we are finally home.

I thought I'd share one of my recent projects with you. My clipboard project for helping organize our family paperwork. I took a 3 pack of hardboard clipboards from Staples, some ModPodge (satin finish), ribbon and CTMH Emporium papers.

I wanted all my clipboards to coordinate because they will be hung in my kitchen to organize all the important papers our kids bring home from school. I hate the mess that covers our refrigerator but never quite knew what to do about it because it really is a convenient place to put all that paper since our kitchen is the central hub of our home.

One of the many reasons I love CTMH is that I can use one paper pack and get several different printed papers that all coordinate. I especially love Emporium. It has almost a bohemian feel to it and I love the colors. I used a round punch to create the 'medallions' on the clip part of the clipboard, backed by a slightly larger coordinating paper circle and an even larger scalloped circle- stuck on with a large popdot that's extra sticky so it stays put.

I measured the papers to fit and then modpodged them on. Once it dried completely, I sanded the edges and rounded corners with a CTMH sanding block to give it a slightly shabby look. I tied a ribbon around each clipboard and used my ATG gun to make sure it stays put. I tied on ribbons at the top because it looked a little plain. I'm really happy with the way they turned out.
I will try to remember to snap a picture of them hanging in my kitchen with my new magnet board for my kids artwork which completes our new organization center and clears my refrigerator!

These would make great gifts too!

Progress on the 'To Do' list!

Happy Weekend! I am pleased to report that I'm making progress on my 'Get it done before the holidays to do list'! As you can see, I'm making progress on the play kitchen. Before you say it, I know this is not salmon pink-- but there was a gallon of 'rose' colored paint on the oops table at Home Depot-- so in sticking with my budget, I was willing to sacrifice! I think it looks cute. Mark just rolls his eyes! But I think that is because he knows it is going to turn out and he didn't think I could pull it off! Ha! So far it has been a busy weekend with projects and errands. We took the recycling to the center, put away all our pool stuff and covered the chairs, etc. for the winter. We trimmed a few bushes that were close to the fence that I was afraid would break the fence if we actually get a decent snowfall this year. We pulled up the remaining plants in the vegetable garden, raked up all the loose stuff and put away the hoses. I cleaned up the house, did all our week's laundry and we are preparing for a few friends to come over this evening for a bonfire at our fire pit. Luckily I went to Costco at lunchtime yesterday. Whew! Suddenly I feel tired!!

Let me show you something else I've marked off my list... teacher gifts for the holidays! I started with this... a plain bottle of hand sanitizer. I carefully peeled off the front label so they are plain on the front. Luckily mine came off easy. If they don't you should clean the residue off before decorating. To decorate, I used rub ons from Close To My Heart and some others I had in my stash. And added some ribbon on the top and a round stamped to from tag (using December Word Puzzle set from CTMH) that I tied on to the ribbon with Flaxy Wax (CTMH). Here's a few close ups. I'm really pleased with how they turned out. I plan to bake cookies with the kids and stack them, cover with plastic wrap tie them up with matching ribbon. I'll include both in a matching kraft gift bag. Zack has a male teacher this year and I never quite know what I want to do for male teachers. I always want it to be useful but special. The one on the Right is for Mr. Prince-- it uses the "All Out Adventure" rub ons from CTMH. Let me know what you think!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend! I'll post a few other projects this week!

3 Treats for Halloween

Happy Halloween! I have three treats for you today. The first treat is a Spooky card made with a seemingly sweet stamp set. This is the stamp of the month for November (check out the inside back cover of the Autumn/Winter Idea Book or click here and you can view online) and is a MUST HAVE! I can't tell you how versatile this set is, but I can show you what I created with it... and while this is not the intended use of the stamp set, it works perfectly for it. It would also be a great for a new house scrapbook page, a housewarming card, a Christmas scene-- just add some Prisma glitter and white embossing powder to the tops of the shutters, roof, doorstep-- the possiblities are endless with this set! Plus, the images are large making a great embellishment for a scrapbook page.

When I created the card, I didn't have a Halloween stamp set. I know, with all my stamp sets, how is this possible?? I am really not much of a Halloween person so the thought of buying a Halloween stamp set never really occurred to me. Then I saw our newest stamp set- Beware...

It is an awesome stamp for cards, tags, scrapbook pages or candy decorating projects. You can use it over and over again! I used the tag and and an alphabet stamp to make a BOO tag to attach to a bag so my kids could 'Boo' our neighbors. If you aren't familiar with this tradition- it is taking a bag of candy, attaching a note that says "BOO" and placing it on someone's doorstep, ringing the doorbell and running to hide before the get to the door- leaving an anonoymus gift like a ghost. Our kids thought this was a blast! The tag could be used for a journaling block and the corner border stamp would make a great embellishment for a scrapbook page. I used the Happy Halloween with the bat cut out in squares and covering a Reese's Cup- it is the perfect size! And for your second treat check out CTMH TV on my website called 'Fall Surprises' that features this stamp set and embossing techinques on a card and a layout!!

The third and final treat of the day is that Close To My Heart has announced Stampaganza 2009- an incredible promotion for November! Buy 2 stamp sets, get 1 free!! How awesome is that!!?? Here's how it works: Choose 2 stamps from any of our 2009 Idea Books-- including those about to be retired (like the hugely popular Word Puzzles) and get 1 FREE (up to $22.95 value). The fine print is: Stamp sets available for FREE include: A, B, C, and D-size sets only. E-size, customizable (K), Stamp of the Month, and Art & Soul® sets are not available as the free set.
